I just finished watching a French film called “The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec” and I must say that it was very exciting and entertaining.
“The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec” is now on Blu-ray for the first time and I just received a review copy from Shout Factory.
The film was released in 2010 and was directed and produced by Luc Besson, who also directed “The Fifth Element.” It stars Louise Bourgoin, Mathieu Amalric, Gilles Lellouche, Jean-Paul Rouve and Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre.
The movie takes place in France during 1912. The main character is Adele Blanc-Sec who is an author. Adele has a sister who had an accident and is in a coma.
Adele knows a professor named Esperandieu who has learned the ability to control things with his mind and can also bring the dead back to life. At the beginning of the film, the professor hatches a 136-million-year-old pterodactyl which causes havoc on the city of France.
Adele goes to Egypt to try and find Ramesse’s doctor in hopes that the professor can bring him back to life so he can bring her sister out of the coma.
Many amazing things happen to Adele on her journey and the movie is action packed. There is also a great mix of humor, fantasy and surprises. I won’t spoil anything but the ending was great and you will be in awe. I know I was.
I really liked the story a lot. It was unique and original. While I was watching it I did feel like it was a mix between “Tomb Raider” and “Indiana Jones.” Adele reminded me of Laura Croft from the “Tomb Raider” game and movie. Adele was strong, smart and was always looking for an adventure. Then there were a ton of action sequences that reminded me of the “Indiana Jones” series. When you watch it, you will know what I am talking about.
I also really liked how the movie was shot and edited. The angles were very interesting and the action sequences flowed very nicely.
The special features on the Blu-ray/DVD were pretty good and very entertaining to watch. The extras include:
- Making-of featurette
- Music featurette
- Deleted scenes
- English/French audio tracks
Overall, I really enjoyed Shout Factory’s “The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec.” It was a fun and exciting movie to watch. It was very cleverly written and you just never knew what was going to happen next. I would highly recommend this film to anyone that is looking for a movie that is different and full of action, fantasy, and tons of surprises. “The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec” is rated “PG.”
