I really enjoy martial arts films a lot and I was very excited to get a review copy of Shout Factory’s “Ninja III: The Domination” Blu-ray/DVD combo pack.
“Ninja III” was released in 1984 and was directed by Sam Fistenberg. It stars Sho Kosugi, Lucinda Dickey and Jordan Bennett.
“Ninja III” is about a woman named Christie Ryder who becomes possessed by an evil ninja. Christie works for a telephone company and is also an aerobics instructor. One day while Christie is working on a telephone line, she sees the ninja stumbling through the desert. The ninja has just been shot multiple times by police and right before he dies he says something in his language and gives Christie his sword.
The ninja seeks revenge against all of the cops that shot him, so his spirit forces Christie (dressed in his ninja outfit) to start hunting them down one by one. Christie’s new boyfriend is one of the cops and he notices that she is acting strange. Christie tells him that she is having blackouts and doesn’t remember things. The boyfriend eventually gets the help of another ninja master named Yamada who knows how to get rid of the spirit of the evil ninja.
This movie is so over the top that I thought it was fun and very entertaining to watch. For instance the ninja gets shot so many times that there is no way anybody could live through it. In one scene he takes a blow gun and shoots a dart down the barrel of a gun and it explodes and kills the person holding it. There are so many silly scenes like this, but I enjoy that and I know a lot of people do, too.
The fight scenes are very exciting. Lucinda Dickey who played Christie did an amazing job when she was possessed by the ninja and Sho Kosugi is always awesome. Sho Kosugi was in the first two ninja movies (“Enter The Ninja” and “Revenge of the Ninja”) and he is just fun to watch because he is very talented and a great martial artist in my opinion.
One thing that I really enjoyed about “Ninja III” was the audio commentary track with the director, Sam Firstenberg, and stunt coordinator, Steve Lambert. This was very interesting. I suggest that you watch the movie then go back and watch it with the audio commentary, because Sam and Steve explain a lot about “Ninja III” and I really like how they talk about each specific scene.
Overall, I really enjoyed Shout Factory’s “Ninja III: The Domination” Blu-ray/DVD combo pack a lot. The movie was cheesy and over the top, but it was fun. The action and fighting sequences were very exciting. The film looked and sounded great. If you’re looking for a fun movie that you can just sit back and watch and not take too seriously then I would highly recommend “Ninja III: The Domination.”
