With the State Championship hanging in the balance, Elk River 9th grader Jayme Langbehn not only scored the eventual game-winning run - she also made home-run robbing catches twice in the final innings.

Langbehn's heroics preserved Elk River's 4-3 win in 8-innings over Prior Lake, earning them the Class AAA State Softball Championship.

With the score tied 3-3 in the 6th inning, Prior Lake slugger Shaye Barton sent a ball high and deep to left center field. Langbehn approached the fence just as the ball did, leaping over the fence to make the catch and hanging on for the out - sending the Championship to extra innings.

In the top of the 8th inning, Langben scored on Courtney Jensen's RBI single to put Elk River ahead 4-3.

Then in the bottom of the 8th, another would-be game-changing homer sailed deep into left center field.  This time, Langben remained in the ground, but reached well above and beyond the fence to reel-in the catch.  Rather than seeing the game tied in dramatic fashion, Langben put her team an out away from the state title.

One batter later, Elk River locked up the Championship with their 4-3 win.

A prior version of this report incorrectly stated the 2012 Class AAA State Softball Champion, which was in fact Stillwater Area High School.
