University of Minnesota junior left-handed pitcher Tom Windle (Osseo high school) was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers with the 56th overall pick in the second round of the Major League Baseball draft.

Windle is the highest Gopher draft selection since Mike Kvasnicka (1st round, 33rd overall, 2010) and Glen Perkins (1st round, 22nd overall, 2004). Windle is also the first Gopher drafted by the Dodgers since Sam Steidl in 2004 (12th round).

Windle, a left-handed pitcher out of Maple Grove, led the team in innings pitched (92.2) and strikeouts (86), with a 6-4 record and a 2.14 ERA. Windle threw his first career no-hitter earlier this season against Western Illinois and has a total of four complete games on the season.

According to Baseball America, Windle has two plus pitches: a 94 mph fastball and a slider.

He excelled in the Cape Cod League last summer. That's when scouts really started to take elite level notice.
