38-Year-Old Man Charged with Sex Trafficking in Minn.
A 38-year-old man was charged with sex trafficking after allegedly taking a 15-year-old from Chicago to Minnesota and placing ads on Backpage.com.
Arteco Marvell Rhodes was charged with one count of sex trafficking an individual under the age of 18, one count of sexual penetration with a juvenile and possession of child pornography.
According to a criminal complaint, a 15-year-old girl met a man in Chicago, later identified as Rhodes.
Rhodes allegedly asked the girl if she wanted to make money and "be part of the family." He reportedly told the girl they were going to Minnesota to do "tricks."
The girl got into a car with Rhodes and a 19-year-old woman in April to go to Minnesota.
The girl stayed with Rhodes in a motel one night and they allegedly had sex several times. He allegedly took a photo afterward.
According to the complaint, Rhodes placed an ad for the girl at Backpage.com. The girl had sex with a man who paid her $85, which she gave to Rhodes.
Rhodes and the girl later got into an argument and he slapped her across the face. He also grabbed a bat and hit her in her head, ribs and arms while telling her he was going to kill her. Rhodes then urinated on her, according to the complaint.
After the assault he told her to "Go be a kid. Stay out of the way. And don't say anything."
The girl was taken to Regions Hospital.
Rhodes was later arrested. He denied having sex or any relationship with the girl.
