As you know I am a huge fan of comic books and superheroes, and I just finished watching a very original and unique animated video from Shout Factory based on the Marvel Knights characters called “Inhumans.”
I say that this animated DVD is unique because it’s really like watching an animated comic book. Each scene resembles comic book panels that have a little animation added to them and they are drawn beautifully. I have never seen this type of animation before and I really thought it was wonderful.
The Inhumans first appeared in “The Fantastic Four” issue number 45 in 1965 and they have been around ever since making appearances here and there. The Inhumans were created when some aliens started doing experiments on humans to create a form of superhuman and the Inhumans were the result of those tests. The leader of the Inhumans is a character named Black Bolt.
To be honest I have never really read too many issues of Inhumans, and I really don’t know that much about them, but I was really excited to watch the movie and I was very impressed.
I really liked the story and it explains that the Inhumans live on a secluded island named Attilan. They do not want to interact with humans so they pretty much keep to themselves on the island. You learn that their powers are given to each Inhuman through a ritual that they have to do when they reach a certain age.
Each power is different and they have to touch a strange substance called the Terrigen Mists. I mentioned earlier that Black Bolt is their leader and now his insane brother is attacking the Inhumans and they must defend their island from him.
I thought the story was very well written and it was really easy to follow. I was just fascinated with the illustrations and I could not keep my off of it.
There is also a great bonus feature included called “A Look Back At The Inhumans.” It features interviews with Paul Jenkins who is an Eisner Award winning writer. There is also interviews with Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada and Supervising Producer Kalia Cheng. They all talk about the history of the Inhumans and making the animated show. I thought that this was very interesting and I learned a lot about the Inhumans.
I really enjoyed Shout Factory’s “Marvel Knights Animation Presents: Inhumans” a lot. The story was very compelling and the illustrations were magnificent. I really think fans of Marvel Comics and superheroes will really enjoy “Inhumans” a lot. I really hope that Marvel puts out more animated features like this, because they are amazing.
