3 Injured in Airplane Crash Landing at Owatonna Airport

Federal investigators are trying to determine what caused a small plane to make a crash landing Saturday at the Owatonna airport.

Federal Aviation Administration officials were on-site at the airport Monday morning to examine the aircraft and crash site, according to the Owatonna Police Department.

A 59-year-old man was flying the single-engine Piper Cherokee plane. Two passengers, a 53-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl, were in the plane.

The pilot suffered facial injuries and was transported to Owatonna Hospital by personal vehicle, police reported. Both passengers had minor injuries.

The aircraft was found in a grassy area north of the main runway taxiway. The plane had extensive damage to the engine compartment, landing gear and left wing, police reported.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Owatonna police are assisting with the investigation.
