Restitution Hearing Looms for Former Walker Aide

A former top associate to Gov. Scott Walker will soon found out how much restitution he owes, after he was convicted of stealing more than $20,000 from a nonprofit group Walker appointed him to lead.

Timothy D. Russell is scheduled for a restitution hearing Friday afternoon. The 49-year-old pleaded guilty in November to felony theft and was sentenced in January to two years in prison.

Russell was Walker's deputy chief of staff when Walker was the Milwaukee County executive. The criminal complaint alleges that Russell used his position and influence to gain financial control of the Heritage Guard Preservation Society.

That's a nonprofit group that organizes outings for veterans to the Milwaukee County Zoo.

Defense attorney Parker Mathers has previously said the defense would agree to pay $22,000 in restitution.
