QuitPlan Challenge Starts April 1 for Minn. Smokers

QuitPlan Services will give $5,000 to one person, age 18 or older, who pledges to quit smoking tobacco on April 1 - and successfully stops for the month.

At the end of the month, the group will choose a random winner for the QuitPlan Challenge. The money comes from tobacco settlements from the state. Last year, about 3,000 people participated in the challenge. Participants can register here.

More than 400,000 people die from tobacco-related illnesses, according to the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids.

Editors note: An earlier story incorrectly stated the award amount. The award is $5,000.
