WEB EXTRA: Doxycycline Shortage Impacts Tick Disease, Acne, STDs

The FDA reports that doxycycline is available in limited supply due to a shortage and tetracycline is unavailable.

According to MedlinePlus, "Doxycycline is used to treat bacterial infections, including pneumonia and other respiratory tract infections; Lyme disease; acne; infections of skin, genital, and urinary systems; and anthrax... It is also used to prevent malaria."

Tetracycline is used to treat bacterial infections. This includes respiratory tract infections, acne, and infections of the genital and urinary systems. It can also be used to treat Lyme disease.
