SLIDESHOW: MN Farmers Donate Soybean Seeds to Afghanistan
Minnesota farmers are providing soybean seeds and donating organic fertilizer and planting equipment to help families in Afghanistan survive and thrive.
The farmers contributed to a shipment of 467 million soybean seeds that just arrived in Afghanistan this week. The partnership is between Minnetonka-based humanitarian agency Shelter for Life International and the American Soybean Association.
Once the seeds arrive, the farmers are taught by Shelter for Life International staff how to plant, fertilize, irrigate and harvest the soybeans.
The initiative is part of the Soybean for Agricultural Renewal in Afghanistan, a program that has served nearly 9,000 Afghan farmers in the three years it has existed.
