Report: Plan to Create Healthy State is Paying Off

Three years ago the state began pushing for a healthier Minnesota through the Statewide Health Improvement Program and the results show it's working.
Here are a few examples of improvements through SHIP:
- Almost 300 cities are currently improving walking and biking paths
- Farm-to-school efforts are pairing up at least 440 schools with local farmers
- 59 college campuses either are or are becoming smoke-free. Officials say that's a step in the right direction to help reduce young adult tobacco use by 2020
- The state also wants to increase healthy weight in adults by nine percent
