Sports Psychologist Shares Secrets to Boost Performance

Sports psychologist Dr. Justin Anderson is credited with helping the Gopher men's basketball team upset top ranked Indiana recently.

Anderson says some of the same tactics the Gophers used to boost their performance can also do the same for you. The key, he says, is emotional intelligence.

Rather than worrying about the future, Anderson says people are better served when they behave confidently in the present. Additionally, Anderson says focusing only on that which you control is important.

Above all else, the key is making your emotions work for you rather than against you. It's difficult to do. But Anderson says it's possible if you train your mind properly.

5 Eyewitness News recently invited Dr. Anderson into the newsroom for a checkup. Can the same mental strategies that apparently worked so well for the Gophers also work in a television news room?

Dr. Anderson provided us keen insight.
