New Guidelines for Ear Infections

New guidelines out this week can help parents make a better decision on how to treat babies and toddlers with ear infections. They appear in the Journal of Pediatrics.

If the infection is mild and its only in one ear, parents can choose between treating it with antibiotics or letting it run its course.

About half of all children under age 1 will experience some type of ear infection.

Doctors say if your child gets multiple infections in a year, they may need to have tubes inserted to prevent fluid buildup.
