More Homeowners Choosing Bolder Colors For Their Walls

If you are looking for a cheap and easy way to freshen up a room, a fresh coat of paint is always a smart option. In today's Angie's List report, we explain why bold colors are making a comeback.

A pretty painted wall can change your mood when you walk into a room.

"It's a lot more fun to paint now, using more color," Painter Debra Dudas said.

Dudas says more homeowners today are choosing bolder colors to brighten up spaces.

"People are really taking chances and going for the middle of the paint swatch," Dudas said.

Angie Hicks, founder of Angie's List, says if you plan on staying in your home for awhile, picking paint that pleases you the homeowner, makes sense.

"If you're a little nervous about it, consider adding a bolder color for one wall as an accent," Hicks said.

For easy clean up, Hicks recommends using a glossy paint if you have kids, and if you hire a contractor, do your homework.

"They need a certified painter who is lead paint certified, because if you have small children, or are pregnant, it can be a hazard to the children," Hicks said.

If you plan on selling your home, Hicks recommends you have neutral colors on your walls.
