Mpls. to Launch Experimental Car-Sharing Program

The city of Minneapolis is driving residents to share.

It's launching an experimental car-sharing program this summer. Residents will be able to rent a car for an hour or two, or even a day.

There are already private car-sharing companies around the metro. The city is looking to partner with one of them and add additional cars and locations for pick up and drop off.

The goal is to reduce car ownership and car congestion.

Other cities like Seattle and Portland have launched similar programs.

The one in Minneapolis will last two years before they decide if it will become permanent.
