The IRS has a message for some tax payers, "Stop checking your refund status every 5 minutes online!"
The IRS says its "Where's My Refund" website and smartphone app are being overwhelmed by anxious tax payers.
The site is only updated once a day, usually overnight, so there's no point in checking it more.
The agency says the best time to check is evenings and weekends.
