U of M Discovery May Help Prevent Breast Cancer

Breast cancer research at the University of Minnesota is making national health headlines Wednesday.

Researchers found a rogue DNA-mutating enzyme that we produce in our bodies may be linked to cancer.

According to the U of M the enzyme, called APOBEC3B, was discovered in more than half of breast cancers.

This discovery may be able to stop mutations before they lead to cancer, while helping researchers come up with more effective treatments.

Researcher Reuben Harris says, "We are confident that our breakthrough will trigger a domino effect of additional research and clinical studies that result in better outcomes for patients with breast cancer."
