VIDEO: Gophers Nab Four-Star Recruit From Minneapolis
Minnesota landed its first big-name commitment for the 2014 class on Saturday as four-star junior running back Jeffrey Jones verbally committed to the Gophers, according to Rivals.com.
Jones, a product of Minneapolis Washburn High School, is one of the top players in the state of Minnesota for the 2014 class. Jones is the eighth-ranked running back in the 2014 class nationally, according to Scout.com.
Jones chose Minnesota over Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan State and Illinois among others. He had slight interest from Oregon and Notre Dame as well, also according to Rivals.com
Jones sparked interest from schools after a monster sophomore campaign at Minneapolis Washburn in 2011. That season, Jones rushed for 1,415 yards and had 26 rushing touchdowns.
His production significantly decreased this season as he only amassed 1,002 yards and nine rushing touchdowns.
Jones has one season remaining at Minneapolis Washburn.
Jones told GopherIllustrated.com that he committed to the Gophers in early January, but wanted to wait until Minnesota’s Junior Day to announce his decision.
Jones is the first four-star recruit of the Jerry Kill era, according to Rivals.com and Scout.com.
