Lack of Snow Cover Helps Ice Fishing

Little snow over the last few months is helping those hoping to catch the big one.

The fish population on many Minnesota lakes is up this winter thanks to a lack of snow cover. The DNR says the lack of snow makes ice form more clearly and allows light to penetrate better. It makes plants to grow, oxygen levels in the water improve, and there will be less fish kill.

If we get a lot of snow over the next few months conditions could change. Lakes in central and southern Minnesota are the ones benefiting by the lack of snow.
