Councilmember Don Samuels Announces Mpls Mayoral Bid

Minneapolis City Councilman Don Samuels plans to run for mayor following R.T. Rybak’s announcement last month that he will not seek a fourth term.

Samuels, who represents the Fifth Ward, announced that there will be a kick-off event later this week. He is the chair of the Public Safety, Civil Rights, and Health Committee.

Samuels was first elected to the city council in 2003. He is the founder of the PEACE Foundation – Public Engagement and Community Empowerment. He is also the founder of the African American Economic Development Committee, which supports the development of African American businesses in the city, and the Institute for Authentic Dialogue on Race, which guides leaders in conversations and relationships.

Councilwoman Betsey Hodges has already declared her intent to run.
