QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • College degree in journalism, television, communications or equivalent experience
  • Solid journalism background with 1 year experience in broadcast news, preferably in a reporting role
  • Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record as determined by the Company (driving record will be checked)
  • Ability to handle a variety of news reporting assignments, such as live appearances on news set and in remote locations
  • Good writing and story telling skills required
  • Knowledge of production values preferred
  • Ability to get along and communicate with a variety of people in often extreme circumstances
  • Able to work well under pressure and within established deadlines
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and other times to meet news objectives
 
DUTIES:
 
  • Research, write and gather traffic information for KSTP-TV and KSTC-TV morning and afternoon shows using data available on the internet and through phone calls
  • Deliver traffic reports at specific times as well as during times of breaking traffic news
  • Write and post stories to website, other media platforms and social media, updating frequently
  • Present scripted and unscripted news reports live on television and radio; may present live stories on location, from the newsroom and/or studio
  • Complete assignments according to established deadlines
  • Embrace and comply with newsroom goals and industry standards that adhere to legal and ethical storytelling
  • Maintain extensive community contacts and awareness of local and national current events
  • Make promotional and community appearances as required
  • Maintain appropriate and strict standards with regard to wardrobe, hair, cosmetics and grooming
  • Provide newsroom leadership by example
  • Contribute to the overall team effort to provide the market with best possible local television journalism. Act in professional manner when representing the station.
  • Assist with special assignments and other duties as assigned
