Senator Klobuchar Introduces Bill on Metal Theft
Lawmakers in Washington, D.C. are joining the effort to prevent metal theft.
Senator Amy Klobuchar is introducing a bill that would make stealing metal a federal offense if it's taken from critical infrastructure.
Recently, 256 feet of copper was stolen from an outdoor hockey rink at Lake Phalen in St. Paul.
The repair costs totaled $20,000, but local companies helped fix it for free.
The Department of Energy estimates $900 million in metal is stolen each year in the United States.
