TSA BLOG: Unusual Items Found in 2013

A pistol in a potted plant, ammunition and a gun concealed in stuffed animals and eels are among some of the unusual and scary items found by Transportation Security Administration Agents in 2012.

The TSA screened more than 1.7 million passengers per day in 2012, and in addition to finding 1,543 firearms in carry-on luggage, also found stranger items including a live high-explosive grenade and dead venomous snakes.

A blog post by Bob Burns, social media analyst with the TSA Office of Strategic Communications and Public Affairs, listed the most “notable firearm incidents” and the “odd/interesting” items.

Items found in the Midwest include:

  • One stun gun was found in someone's carry-on at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
  • A gun was found inside of a book at Fargo Airport.

Check out the full list here.
