Whooping Cough Cases Rise Dramatically in Minn.

The cases of whooping cough are rising dramatically in Minnesota.

In Minnesota, 4,340 cases have been reported this year, which is the highest number since WWII. In Wisconsin, 5,668 cases have been reported this year, which is the highest number since 2004.

Dr. Cindy Larson says one reason for the spike is that some newer versions of the vaccine don’t last quite as long. She also says that more adults need the vaccine.

The Centers for Disease Control says only about 10 percent of the adult population has gotten the pertussis vaccine.
