Fridley Homeowner Tackles Alleged Burglar

A suspected burglar was arrested after the homeowner tackled him to the ground and detained him until police arrived.

Fridley officers were called to the 7100 block of East River Road around 4:48 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, on a report of a burglary. When they arrived, they found the homeowner holding down a suspect near the railroad tracks behind his house.

The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Jeffrey Louis Conley of Minneapolis.

The homeowner told police his security system went off in his unattached garage and that he found Conley inside with two bags full of tools. The homeowner said he chased Conley and tacked him to the ground. Conley then allegedly threatened to stab the homeowner and then asked him to let him go for the holidays and for the sake of his kids.

The homeowner told police that Conley’s bags had power tools that belonged to him. Conley told police that he was out of work and needed money.

Conley has been charged with third degree burglary. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines.
