ISD 15 School Board Votes to Remove Board Member

St. Francis School Board member Matthew Rustad was removed from his position after a vote from other board members this week.

Rustad is accused of plagiarizing an article he submitted for the September 2012 issue of The Courier, which is the district’s monthly publication. He’s also accused of attempting to cover it up.

An independent hearing officer recommend the board remove Rustad following a hearing on Nov. 14, saying the plagiarism and cover-up violates the school board ethics policy.

The board voted 4-2 to remove Rustad, with Rustad abstaining. They will now appoint a community member to serve on the board until the November 2013 election. A special election will then be held to fill the term until 2015.
