Nat'l Exam Shows Shortcomings in Students' Vocabulary

Results of a national exam show some serious shortcomings in our students’ vocabulary.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the average student knew only half of what they were expected to on last year’s National Assessment of Educational Progress.

Eighth graders knew 265 out of 500 vocabulary words and fourth graders averaged only 218.

Most fourth graders didn’t know the meaning of the words “created,” “spread,” and “underestimate.”
