Burglars Arrested Offer Insight to BP Police

Thanks to the watchful eye of a neighbor, two burglars have been arrested in Brooklyn Park.

During the interview process police say the individuals offered some useful information.

Police say the burglars said they would target homes in the daytime with large or overgrown shrubbery in front of the front door. They would send a woman to the door asking for a made up person. Police say when she is told that person is not there, she would apologizes and leave. If no one answered, the door would be kicked in.

Police say they would hit the master bedroom and look in the closet and the dresser drawers for money, jewelry, and guns.

Here are some Burglary Prevention Tips from Brooklyn Center Police:

• Lock all windows and doors when you are not going to be in your home, don’t just pull them shut

• Keep trees, plants and shrubs near doors and windows trimmed so burglars can't make use of the shadows. You might consider removing trees close to your home.

 

• Fit motion-sensitive lights or timed ones around your home, the movement sensors will ensure that an intruder is bathed in light if they approach your home.

• Leave some lights turned on when you are out. An occupied home will usually have more than one light on, so to give the impression that someone is at home leave at least two rooms lit one of which should be visible from the road.

 

• Leave a radio on when you are out or connect a radio to a timer. If a burglar is standing at your doorway they will hear the noise and possibly assume someone is in the home.

 

• If someone does knock on your door or rings the doorbell make sure you make them aware that there is someone in the home. If you are not comfortable opening the door you can simply talk through it and ask what they want.

• Call 9-1-1 if you observe anyone or anything suspicious in your neighborhood.
