Minn. Corrections Officer Accused of Sexual Misconduct

A Tower man is facing felony charges for allegedly engaging in multiple acts of sexual misconduct with a female inmate while employed as a corrections officer at the state correctional facility in Togo, Minn., prosecutors said Friday.

James Allen Bongaarts, 56, is charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, four counts of third-degree attempted criminal sexual conduct and one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The Itasca County Attorney's office says the alleged acts took place over the last two months.

Bongaarts is being held at the Itasca County Jail. His first appearance in court is set for Dec. 3.
