Source: Suspects Who Desecrated Grave Were Looking for Something

Investigators have said very little about the attempted grave robbery last July. But, sources tell 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS there is more to this case than meets the eye.

The grave of World War II Navy veteran Edward Redhead was desecrated, and investigators are still looking for a suspect in the case. Sources say whoever dug up Redhead's grave was looking for something specific and knew what they were doing.

Sources say the grave robbers used machinery and scaffolding to dig up the grave. And, they new exactly where to dig to find the casket - something not easy to do.

Sources also tell 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that the thieves did reach the vault and casket and were able to open the casket but did not find whatever it was they were looking for. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office told us they could not comment on what we learned because they did not want to jeopardize the investigation. But, they did not tell us our information was wrong.

A knife with the name "Wally" inscribed on it was found at the scene of the crime and investigators are hoping that will lead to a break in the case.

If you have information about this crime, you are encouraged to contact the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.
