Study: High Rates of Contamination Found in Pork

A food alert is out about pork. A new study found a high rate of contamination in pork chops and ground pork.

Consumer Reports tested pork you would buy at the grocery store. It found that nearly 70 percent of the pork was contaminated with the bacteria Yersinia.

About 100,000 Americans get sick every year from the bacteria, with symptoms like fever, cramps, and bloody diarrhea.

Cooking the pork thoroughly kills the bacteria, but it can easily spread to your kitchen surfaces.
