Typo Underestimates SW Light Rail Costs

A typo found by engineering consultants, in a Southwest Light Rail Transit report, shows the cost of putting the Twin Cities & Western freight line in the same corridor as the light rail was underestimated by $100,000,000.

The “professional services” cost of the LRT 3A-1 option, is shown as “$99,357,000. It should have read “$199,357,000,” according to HDR Engineering, Inc.

The overall capital costs were shown as $1,071,770,000. It should have read $1,171,770,000. The per-mile capital costs was shown as $65,352,000 and should have read $71,449,000.

HDR Engineering blamed the error on editing and formatting done in response to Federal Transit Administration comments.

The error has been corrected and does not alter the conclusions of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement.
