2 Sexual Assaults Reported in Minneapolis

Police say another woman was sexually assaulted at a south Minneapolis park, just hours after a similar attack Monday.

However Police Sgt. Stephen McCarty said the suspect descriptions lead him to think the assaults that happened just 3 miles apart are not related.

McCarty said the suspect height and age are different in each attack.

The first happened at about 4 a.m. Monday on Stevens Avenue, near Stevens Square Park.

The second attack happened while a student was on her way to St. Catherine's University, near West River Parkway and 27th Avenue South around 6:30 a.m. Monday. A man told the victim he had a gun and attacked her in a wooded area.

A $1,000 reward is being offered.

The suspect in the second attack was described as a black male, 5’ 5” tall, 35 to 40 years old with an unshaven scruffy beard. He had a medium to heavy build and was wearing a navy blue jacket with a zipper.

Anyone with information should call the Minneapolis Police Department at 612-673-2358, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
