Roseville Firefighters Grow Mustaches, Shave Heads for Cancer Awareness

You may start noticing something hairy about Roseville Firefighters.

Thursday is the first day of November – a month affectionately known as Movember thanks to a moustache-growing charity event that raises money for men’s health.

Dozens of Roseville firefighters are keeping their upper lips warm this month to raise awareness for men’s health – specifically prostate and testicular cancer. Last year, each Movember mustache grown sparked a total of 2,400 conversations around men’s health. This year, Roseville’s Fire Department is shaving for the cause.

The statistics are alarming – one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime, and 24 percent of men are less likely to go to the doctor compared to women.

In addition to growing mustaches, some firefighters will be shaving their heads at Fire Station 3 on Thursday, Nov. 1. The event begins at 4 p.m.
