Civil Rights Leader to Appear at Guthrie

Civil rights leader Julian Bond will appear at the Guthrie Theater next month to examine the political themes of the new play "Appomattox."

Bond will speak on Sunday, Nov. 4, at 1 p.m. as part of the Guthrie's In Conversation series. Twin Cities performer Regina Marie Williams will moderate.

Bond, a former Georgia legislator and NAACP chair, appears as part of the Guthrie's Christopher Hampton Celebration.

Hampton's "Appomattox" takes place at the end of the Civil War and during the civil rights era. The play deals with the aftermath of slavery and the struggle for equal rights.

Single tickets for Bond's appearance are $20, or $15 for Guthrie subscribers and students, and are on sale at the Guthrie Box Office, by phone or online.
