EmailSt. Paul Police Welcome 20 New Members to Force
History was made Thursday night as St. Paul police welcomed more than 20 new members to its police force.
The class includes the department's first Somali-born officer.
Garaad Sahal fled Somalia in the 1990s and moved to Minnesota in 2001.
He says he wants to make sure other Somalis know they don't have to fear police in the U.S.
Out of the 22 recruits, 17 percent are minorities.
Their graduation ceremony was at Harding High School.
