Minnesota Zoo Dolphins Settle into New Homes
Two dolphins from the Minnesota Zoo are now swimming in their new homes.
Allie and Semo were transferred to other facilities so the zoo can make repairs to its 15-year-old Discovery Bay building after years of saltwater damage.
At the age of 48, 'Semo' is the oldest bottlenose dolphin in human care. He was moved to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in California, while 25-year-old Allie was moved to Brookfield Zoo in Illinois.
The dolphins won't be returning to Minnesota.
The Discovery Bay exhibit will be empty for the next year as repairs are made. Then, the tank will likely be used for a temporary exhibit of stingrays and fish until a larger exhibit can be funded and built, according to officials at the zoo.
