Family, Tissue Recipient Gather for 'Timmy Day' in Askov

A family who lost their 19-year-old son six years ago, is honoring his memory with 'Timmy Day.'

Tim Zaudtke was an organ donor who impacted many lives.

Tim's family, friends and one of his tissue recipients will gather Oct. 6 in Askov to decorate pumpkins in his memory.

Tim's tissue recipient, Marissa, is flying in from California for the event. She says, 'His spirit will always be alive in me. Timmy's transplant has impacted my life in more ways than one.'

The group plans to set up a display of the pumpkins at the cemetery, and then hold a balloon release.

Marissa says, "I hope that many individuals make the decision to be 'Donors.' It is a beautiful life changing gift. Timmy gave me a second chance to celebrate life and never take anything for granted."

According to Rebecca Ousley with LifeSource there are more than 115,000 people in the United States waiting for a life-saving organ transplant, including nearly 3,000 in Minnesota.

Ousley says, one person can save and heal up to 60 lives through organ and tissue donation.
