Fridley Event Raises Awareness for Chiari Malformation

Community members are invited to attend a fundraiser that raises awareness and funds for Chiari Malformation research.
Chiari Malformation is a neurological disorder that causes the bottom part of the brain to crowd the spinal cord, putting pressure on both the brain and spine. Symptoms may include trouble swallowing or speaking, loss of fine motor control, balance issues, numbness in hands and feet, and others, according to the Conquer Chiari organization.
This weekend, events will be taking place across the country for the Conquer Chiari Walk Across America. All proceeds go to fund Chiari research.
One such walk will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Commons Park in Fridley. Mayor Scott Lund is expected to be in attendance. There will also be entertainment and raffles throughout the event.
