Trial Set in Totem Pole Death

A trial has been scheduled for a northern Minnesota man accused of killing his wife with a totem pole.

Fifty-year-old Carl Muggli is charged with premeditated first-degree murder and intentional second-degree murder in the November 2010 death of his wife, Linda. She died when she was struck by a totem pole the couple had been carving.

The Duluth News Tribune says a Jan. 14 trial date has been set for Muggli, who is being held in the Koochiching County Jail on $1 million bail.
