Penumbra Theater Cuts Shows Due to Financial Problems

A St. Paul theater is trying to trim thousands of dollars from its budget, meaning fewer productions and fewer employees.

Penumbra is the country’s largest African-American theater. Directors say it won’t produce any plays this season because of financial problems.

It’s trying to raise $340,000 by the end of the year so it can put on a production next spring.
