Centennial Fire District Receives $1.16M Grant for Recruitment

The Centennial Fire District is hoping to recruit volunteer and on-call firefighters, and they’re getting federal money to do it.
The district received a nearly $1.16 million grant through the Department of Homeland Security Staffing and Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Program.
The money will support all Anoka County fire departments as they work to find 236 new firefighters over the next four years. It will also fund a fire training academy, equipment for new hires, pre-employment screening, and promotional tools.
According to the district, recruiting volunteers is especially difficult because of the time commitment.
