Gopher Safety Derrick Wells is the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
Wells had two interceptions in the win at University of Nevada, Las Vegas Thursday. The Gophers had four interceptions total all of last year.
Wells also had eight tackles, and he helps bring a speed element to the secondary that wasn’t there this year.
Wells is a sophomore from Lehigh Acres, Fla.
