Columbia Heights Police Dept. Honored with International Award

The Columbia Heights Police Department has received an international award for outstanding achievement and innovative programs.

The department was given the 2012 International Association Chiefs of Police Community Policing Award. According to the department, only one agency a year in the five population categories is given the award, and Columbia Heights is the only Minnesota city in the 20,000 population category to ever win the award.

The Columbia Heights Police Department has supported a number of initiatives, including hot spot policing, Neighborhood Watch, Open Gym, youth mentoring, landlord training, All-Hands Day, fundraising programs, and others.

The department will receive the award at the 2012 IACP Annual Conference in October.
