Back to school shopping is expensive for parents, but it also costs teachers a lot to get ready for a new school year. Many use their own money to buy supplies for their classroom.
For teachers in the southwest metro, a 6,000-square-foot warehouse in Bloomington is a gold mine.
Shelves at Companies to Classrooms are stocked with recycled or excess supplies donated mainly by local businesses. Teachers from Richfield, Bloomington and Shakopee schools can shop once a month.
Founder Cary Weatherby says some teachers spend between $700 and $1,000 a year on classroom necessities.
