Woodbury Resident Convicted of Malicious Punishment, Assault

A 27-year-old Woodbury resident was convicted Thursday of Malicious Punishment and Domestic Assault.
Ahavel Scherz faces up to a year in jail for an April 1 incident involving her boyfriend’s 13-year-old daughter.
According to the Washington County Attorney’s Office, Schertz punished her boyfriend’s daughter by making her kneel on the bare floor with bare knees while holding a chair straight over her head. When the girls’ arms would drop from exhaustion, Scherz would hit the girl with a wooden spoon.
The girl had numerous bruises on her arms and legs.
The attorney’s office also says Scherz wrote “My name is [girl’s name] and I am a thief” on the front of a shirt and “I have been stealing my dad’s girlfriend’s clothes…I am a thief” on the back of the shirt. The girl was forced to wear the shirt to school, where school authorities reported it to police.
