Stillwater to Hold Public Hearing on Beekeeping Ordinance

Some Stillwater residents are asking the city to change its ordinance on beekeeping.

According to the City of Stillwater, residents are allowed to have one beehive on their property if it's kept within 500 feet of the property line.

Community Development Director Bill Turnblad tells KSTP.com, since most properties are relatively small in the city, beekeeping is essentially not allowed.

Some residents are requesting a change to the ordinance to allow beehives on any size lot.

A public hearing on the bee ordinance is scheduled for Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
