Smart Lane Signs Light Up I-94 in Minneapolis, St. Paul
Technology aimed at making your commute safer and more efficient is now lighting up Interstate 94 in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Smart Lanes offer real-time information about road conditions to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and improve safety. A green arrow means the lane is open for use, while a yellow one warns drivers to proceed with caution. A red "X" means the lane is closed and drivers should get ready to merge.
MnDOT says there will be 120 signs on I-94 between the Lowry Tunnel and I-35E.
Right now, there are 180 signs on I-35W between downtown and the split in Lakeville.
They believe the technology can reduce collisions by 30 percent and increase roadway capacity by 22 percent.
