Results of Brooklyn Park Recount

When election workers finished counting all 1,291 votes cast in the special election to fill a Brooklyn Park Council seat, just five votes separated the first and second place candidates.  Those votes were counted again Tuesday, this time by hand.

Three candidates were on the ballot, hoping to fill the seat left vacant with the death of Jeanette Meyer of lung cancer earlier this year.

These are the West District Council Member vote totals as reported to the Secretary of State:

  • 215  Joseph Meyer Gearin
  • 536  Bob Mata
  • 531  Wynfred N. Russell
  • 9       Write In

Russell requested a recount.  The City Clerk said the recount will take place Tuesday (August 21) at 10 a.m. in the Brooklyn Park City Council Chambers.  It was open to the public.

"The results show there were 536 votes for Bob Mata and 531 votes for Wynfred Russell," said City clerk Devin Montero.  "This is consistent with last week's election results."
